More Details

How does it work?

TMJ Botox refers to the use of Botox injections to treat Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders. The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects the jawbone to the skull and allows for movements like chewing, speaking, and yawning. TMJ disorders can cause pain, discomfort, and restricted jaw movement. Botox works by blocking nerve signals that cause muscles to contract thereby reducing their size and strength.

Procedure

During the treatment botox is injected directly into the masseter muscles on both sides of the face. The syringe used for this kind of procedure is very thin, so most patients only feel slight pain or discomfort during the treatment session. Most visits are completed within 30 minutes, with the actual treatment taking only a few minutes.

Aftercare

There may be slight swelling or redness at the injection site, but this typically resolves within 30 minutes. Mild bruising may occur, but this can be minimized by following our pre-treatment instructions. There is no downtime or recovery and treatment can be combined with other procedures.

Results

TMJ Botox injections can start to provide relief as early as a few days and are noticeable by two to four weeks after your treatment. Results typically last three to five months.
